ITIS "E.Mattei"

ITIS "E. Mattei" is a technical high school that operates in VET and Technological fields and is located in the city of Urbino, a city in the Marche region (east central Italy), famous for being the birthplace of Raffaello and for being an important town if Renaissance time.

The school has been founded in 1960 and from 1970 it is located in the current site, very close to the historical centre. The main activity field is the education of young high school students, of age between 14 and 19, but the school operates also in the field of adult education, within social policies of the European Union.

The economic context (environment) of the area around Urbino is characterized by the presence of small craft businesses, trading and services companies, and industrial sites populated by many small and medium enterprises (SME), especially in the sectors of mechanical engineering, wood machinery and furniture, but also in electronics, chemical, clothing, tourism and food industry.

Over the year ITIS has been developing an education system which aims both at meeting companies needs in terms of workers recruitment and to ensure graduate students either a rewarding job or a successful path of study at the university. ITIS has created very strong relations with local companies and even during the study period gives students the opportunity to participate at experiences of internship.

Under the Erasmus+ framework such experiences are being made more and more abroad. The school has more than 1000 students and 130 teachers and is structured in four departments: mechanics, mechatronics and energy; chemistry, materials and biotechnologies; electronics and electrotechnics; computer science and telecommunications.

As a technical school we are deeply involved in projects that have to do with technology and we are strongly interested in creating opportunities for students to learn, have fun, work with technological components. We do many STEM activities, in our school as an institutional duty to students age 14 to 19, but also provide Stem training to teachers and younger students of other schools. In the electronics engineering field we do a lot of work regarding Arduino, Lego, Raspberry, TI and lately St32 microcontrollers.

At a European level we also are increasing our clil activity. Finally, we are very open to improving learning and teaching methodologies so we would be very happy to share experiences with other schools, see how they are working and learn from their best practices.
