1st Meeting in Bulgaria

28th – 30 th November 2019

The first meeting of the "The Da Vinci Code" project, under the Erasmus + program, "School Sharing Partnerships" started on 28th November 2019.

The first meeting was attended only by teachers from partner schools. During the November 28th-30th meeting, the main activities were school presentations, presentation of good practices, organizational issues, developing lesson templates and project assignments. We have also planned two trainings with guest lecturers.

DAY 1

The first meeting started with a brief but very interesting tour of the host school, where the project participant could see different workshops and specialized classrooms for vocational classes. The tour was followed by the presentation of each of the partner schools and their experience in interdisciplinary and project-based learning. After that the coordinator presented the project with its goals, expected results, activities and meetings. A date was set for the next project meeting in Latvia – 11th – 15th May 2020. The tasks for the next meeting were discussed – each partner is expected to prepare one interdisciplinary lesson and five project-based learning tasks by the end of April, so that they can be reviewed by all partners. Two lessons will be taught to project students in Latvia. The project-based learning tasks will be discussed and adjustments will be made if necessary. At the meeting all schools will participate in a fair where the students will present their schools and an important inventor from their country. They will also participate in a workshop and   make   a   simple   device   or machine.

Another point of discussion was the communication between the partners schools. It was decided that a shared Google Drive folder would be created by the Italian team, where all materials from the meeting were to be uploaded. Responsibilities were distributed – Romania and Latvia will be responsible for the E-twinning project and Twinspace. Portugal will be responsible for the project website. Italy will take care of social media, Serbia will create a short bulletin for each day of the meetings. Bulgaria will coordinate activities and make the protocols with the description of each meeting for Mobility Tool. The partners agreed to upload their STEM curricula on the Google Drive so everyone can compare and discuss the touchpoints and their interrelated connections and the opportunities for an attractive interdisciplinary lesson with activities included. All this is related to the innovative implementation of science lessons on the curriculum for mastering key competences from the European framework in each of the partner school.

The project coordinator presented in detail the school’s experience in interdisciplinary lessons and some good practices and ideas of project-based learning.

DAY 2

On the second day of the meeting the guest lecturer and consultant was Ivo Jokin - Scientix Ambassador of Bulgaria, Galileo teachers training programs ambassador and head of the municipal center for out-of-school activities in the village of Baykal, municipality of Dolna Mitropoliya.
He presented to the team resources for an interdisciplinary approach to science education from the Scientix portal, the largest project of the European School Network, GoLab, NextLab, mobile and online laboratories and inspirational science education - Inspiring Science Education.
The resources and approaches presented were very useful for the partners. They gladly got involved in the tasks of studying secret boxes, sundial, spectrometer and more.
The partners discussed a common framework for both the interdisciplinary lessons and the project-based learning tasks. The finished frameworks will be uploaded on Google Drive by the Bulgarian team. Each team will have a separate folder on Google Drive where they will upload their lessons and project-based learning tasks. All partners will have access to these folders.
The guests had a tour of Vidin, guided by the Bulgarian students involved in the project. They showed the teachers the most interesting sights in Vidin and shared some facts and legends in the English language. The partners had dinner together in a traditional Bulgarian restaurant with traditional Bulgarian food, music and dance.
