Vocational School "Prof. Dr.Asen Zlatarov”

Vocational School "Prof. Dr.Asen Zlatarov”

Vocational School "Prof. Dr.Asen Zlatarov” was founded in 1963.

Today it is the largest vocational school in Vidin district with more than 450 students in 20 classes and 40 teachers and the administrative staff is of 10 people. There is a vocational college established to the school. We prepare students for more than 12 professions in the field of economy, tourism, electronics and computer technologies. Admission to the school is completed after the seventh or eighth grade.

The course ends in 12th grade with the acquisition of secondary education after successfully passing the state graduation exams. After finishing the 12th grade and exams in theory and practice of the profession, students receive second or III-degree professional qualification. We pay particular attention to practical training.

We have a rich material base. Our school pay serious attention to teaching languages. The school is actively working on various projects aimed at improving quality and learning results, enhancing the professional skills of both students and teachers, acquisition of key competences, creating a modern and relevant learning environment. The school has developed a quality system.

This system includes tools for monitoring and evaluating the quality of education.

As a result of the monitoring, the main priorities for future development activities are set for the introduction of ICT and interactive teaching methods, development of a portfolio of teachers and students and etc. The practice shows that the current training methods are not suitable for teaching a new technological generation. It is necessary to use new technologies and methods for teaching lessons.

This, in turn, creates other problem. Teachers should not digitalize the old methods of studying, they must find new ways of teaching. Unfortunately they do not have an attitude to change their methods of teaching, which used to be effective before, they are afraid of the unknown new technologies and applications, they don’t believe that they can deal with them and don’t try. In order these problems to be solved we decided, to write a project about project basic learning and interdisciplinary learning of STEM through innovation, communication and exchange of experience. Our school has a lot of experience working in the field of STEM. We are working on an Erasmus + project - Goscience 2017-2019.

We have experience in organizing a science competition, we win prizes in electronics, programming and robotics competitions. Science teachers participate in training courses in new teaching methods as well as training courses at CERN and SCIENTIX. Teachers involved in this project teach STEM, ICT and computer science. They have a lot of experience in different approaches of teaching, participating in robotics competition, 3D printing and working in national and international projects.
